One of Those Days

One of our to-dos today was to get a document notarized and get it turned in to the DAV before 3:00. Around lunch time we set out to get Dad to the bank to see the notary there. We love the van and are getting used to hauling Dad around but it is still a bit of a task. Upon arriving at the bank, we scoped out the best way to get in, and then parked across the street in a parking lot and went up the sidewalk where there was a little ramp. We waited for the bank lady to finish lunch and then piled into her office and then found out that one of the few documents she cannot notarize was the one we had.

So we loaded back up and headed home to regroup because it was time to feed Daddy. On the way home as we were going up a slight hill, the van lost power! We gradually came to a stop in the right lane. Immediately two young men appeared (thank you Lord!)and pushed the van into a parking lot. They looked under the hood and one of them sparked the solenoid with a screw driver and it started up. We dashed home and I forgot to leave the van running to take it somewhere to get it checked out and it died to never live again, at least for today.  We got Daddy fed and put to bed. We will wait for another day to continue the search for the right notary.

Shortly after that, I drove to the next little town to walk my friend's dog and could not get in the house. After not being able to get her on the phone, and trying to no avail to break into some windows, I got a call from her. She explained which window was the break-in one and how to do that (involving a ladder) and then her husband piped in and asked if I had pushed the side door really hard. No I had not. I walked back around the house to try that and it worked!  There's a moral there somewhere.

Meanwhile, Mama talked to Mike and he said the guy that he got the van from had just put a new solenoid and starter on and that he felt like there was probably just a bolt or wire that was loose. So Cole is coming over in the morning to see if he can fix it. Which is good, because Dad has an eye exam in the morning and we start the notary thing all over again.

So not really such a bad day, just a little frustrating.

On another note...some folks that visited Daddy while he was in Springfield last year that I didn't mention on the first blog are: Morgan (Ronnie's daughter) who brought a beautiful kaloncho plant, and her husband Brandon, and Forrest and Kim, and cousin Judy. Judy and Gayle helped us tear down Mama's wall of shelves and repainted it. It took us all day but we had lots of fun.

Also...much thanks and appreciation to Mike for building a ramp and to him and Michael for installing an electric wench to help me and Mama get Dad up and down the ramp. More mentions and stories to come. I sure hope someone signs up for weekend visits soon. It would be great to at least get the months of June, July, August and September (our summer tour months) taken care of.
